KIDS AND SOCIAL MEDIA CONSUMPTION – KNOW ITS EFFECTS AND THE USE OF SCREEN TIME APP FOR ANDROID!

A team of experts from the Royal Society of Public Health and the Youth Health Movement (UK) has conducted a survey of 1,479 young individuals aged between 14 and 25 years to see the echo of popular social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube in anxiety, loneliness, depression, harassment, body image or fear of missing something, better known as FOMO (fear of missing out).

The survey was completed with a broader report investigating the impact of social networks on people of that age group, the so-called ‘ digital natives’, who have never experienced the world without internet.

The results showed that the social network  Instagram  was classified as the worst social media platform for the mental health of young people.

Despite the negative effects, the report also explored the possible benefits for adolescents, such as gaining a better sense of their surroundings and specifically of their own selves. Thus,   YouTube was the social network with the most positive effect on young people and, as we have seen, the platform for exchanging photos has the most damaging influence.

In the five platforms of social networks, the biggest negative impact was around the dream, the harassment and the ‘fear of losing something’.
